Early morning of 15th November 2010, Apple changed it's homepage "yet again". Everyone including TechMaiden was wondering what would Mr Steve Jobs be coming up with now.
With the new innovation of Apple (the new macbook air, iPad, iPod Touch 4th Generation), stakeholders and consumer alike are really curious about what Apple is so hyped about. Rumors begins to flood the internet. Some say the cloud system, some say the new iOS 4.2, some say cheaper songs, some say longer song preview. Well, the answer was given at 10am EST.
Apple’s mysterious iTunes teaser was resolved today with the announcement that iTunes will now offer the entire catalogue of Beatles songs. Negotiations and legal deals have finally been agreed after years and years of "legal battles".
“We’re now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes 10 years ago … We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to iTunes.” - Steve Jobs
Is this truly a good news? Well, there are two answers. Yes and No.
iTunes is a great product launched by apple and almost 90% of the resident in the US uses iTunes instead of other music programs such as windows Media Player or Real Time Player. iTunes also evolves to become the main source of Americans getting all their music. With the addition of the Beatles, i am already picturing happy faces on consumers and also Beatles fan. Hooray!!
However, this will be a big yawn with the investors. Investors are already used to expect big things from Apple. They expect something related to the usability and service enhancements of the iTunes and not just a simple band. Investors are thoroughly not happy with the way Apple marketed this announcement and it is shown on the stocks on the 17th November 2010 (Wednesday) which recorded a significant drop to Apple's share. (AAPL)
Are you still convinced apple is still ahead of its game or did apple just destroyed their image of being one of the leading innovators of technology after this announcement?
Just drop a comment below. Hope you enjoyed this.
